Minds in Motion academic support sessions use small group instruction and individualized tutoring aligned with the school day curriculum allowing youth to strengthen core skills in reading, writing, math and science while receiving targeted support based on assessment needs. Arts and cultural enrichment are delivered as structured skill building learning experiences. Youth participate in hands-on visual arts (drawing, painting, mixed media, etc), creative writing and spoken word, music and instrumental exploration, dance and theater arts. Cultural programming expands students' awareness of history, identity and global perspectives through activities such as guest artists and community leaders, storytelling workshops and explorations of diverse artistic traditions (African drumming, Indigenous art forms, Latin dance, etc). Pre and Post activity discussions encourage reflection, critical thinking and connection to students' own cultural identities. This encourages confidence building and a stronger sense of belonging. Leadership development is embedded through weekly workshops focused on communication, goal setting, teamwork and problem-solving. Youth engage in project-based learning where they apply leadership skills through group activities, peer mentoring, and community- focused projects. These sessions are facilitated using age appropriate curriculum and guided discussion to promote critical thinking and personal responsibility. Program staff use trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices to create a sae and supportive learning environment. Progress is tracked through attendance records, academic indicators, skill building assessments and youth self reflection tools. This structured holistic approach ensures youth receive consistent learning opportunities that build academic success, leadership capacity and confidence. Core program components include academic support, leadership development, social emotions learning, arts and cultural enrichment, structured recreation and reflection. Together these activities create a nurturing environment where youth feel supported, connected and empowered to succeed.
Our Youth in Motion program provides a safe supportive and consistently supervised environment where youth can develop social emotional skills, build positive relationships and engage in healthy interactions. Social emotional learning is intentionally integrated into daily activities through facilitated group circles, leadership workshops and guided discussions focused on self awareness, emotional regulation, communication, empathy, conflict resolution and responsible decision making. Staff model positive behaviors and use restorative practices to help youth navigate challenges and strengthen peer relationships. Recreational activities are designed to encourage teamwork, cooperation and healthy physical engagement. Youth participate in structured team sports, cooperative games, movement based activities and wellness practices that emphasize leadership, respect and collaboration rather than competition alone. These activities provide meaningful opportunities to practice social skills, manage emotions and build confidence. Life skills and peer leadership development are embedded throughout the program. Youth engage in workshops on goal setting, problem solving, time management and public speaking. Youth are given opportunities to serve as peer leaders, mentor younger participants, and support group activities. Core program components include academic support, leadership development, social emotions learning, arts and cultural enrichment, structured recreation and reflection. Together these activities create a nurturing environment where youth feel supported, connected and empowered to succeed.
